Optus says 'Yes' to our Juniors

Optus joins Pirates as the Junior Club Competition naming rights partner.

In an exciting development for South West Metro Basketball Association, we have recently signed a partnership with Optus as the naming rights partner for our Junior Club Competition.

With the competition going forward to be named & referred to as the “Optus Junior Club Competition”.

It is a great testament to the path our Association is on that a national brand such as Optus are partnering with us as part of their local community engagement. Not only are there benefits for us as an association as part of this new partnership, but there are some great opportunities that our clubs can benefit from as well as part of this new agreement.

Some of the key benefits to the Association & its affiliated clubs are:

  • Optus will have access to Junior Competition games on a Friday night and Saturday for activations and/or promotions at any of the club competition venues. This can include signage such as pull up banners or equivalent at the SWM junior club competition stadiums.

  • Player of the month awards or vouchers will be awarded by Optus. SWM or its affiliated clubs will select the winner each month.

  • Optus branding on Glory League recorded footage for all junior club games played at Hibiscus Stadium starting from, Season 1 2025. This will include the “Optus Top 5 plays of the week”.

  • Opportunity for community engagement through events such as Semi Finals, Grand Finals, individual club engagement at sign on days, end of season/end of year break ups, and junior rep presentation days.

  • Opportunity for community engagement through fundraiser opportunities for junior clubs.

Nick Channell, Local General Manager at Optus, said the partnership with South West Metro Basketball is a great fit for Optus, with both organisations committed to supporting the Mount Gravatt community, as well as its locals.

“Optus is always looking at ways to support local initiatives that give back to the community and are important to our customers and our team.” Mr Channell said.

“In the area, we are aiming to help build stronger, connected communities through our support for important local causes, organisations and events. That starts right here in our local community and with South West Metro Basketball”.

“The partnership will see the South West Metro Basketball Association able to continue supporting the local community and players, and is part of Optus’ ongoing involvement in Mount Gravatt and South Brisbane.”

“We look forward to connecting with the local community and being part of the South West Metro Junior season,” Mr Channell concluded.

Pirates CEO Chris Angus had this to say on the newest Association partnership:

“It is fantastic to have Optus on board as our Junior Club Competition naming rights partner. To have any major national brand on board & supporting grassroots junior sport is a huge deal & after meeting Nick it was very clear that their community engagement opportunities & benefits would synch perfectly with our junior club competitions, not only on game days, but also with great opportunities for our clubs to tap into Optus’ community engagement resources”.

“It is an exciting time at Pirates with new partnerships starting to come in & more brands & businesses wanting to partner with our organisation. It is a testament to all the hard work from so many people & the journey we are on as an Association. I would like to thank Optus for partnering with us & supporting our grassroots through our junior club competition. I look forward to a successful partnership going forward.”

Over the coming weeks junior club families & players will start to see an Optus presence start to be rolled out across our junior club competition & venues.

There are still plenty of partnership opportunities to connect and support South West Metro Basketball across many levels within the Association. If you are interested in partnering with us in anyway or know of a business who might be interested in partnering with us, please email our CEO Chris Angus on ceo@southwestbasketball.com.au
