WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
β
Play Basketball. Build Skills. Be Part of the Pirates.
The South West Metro Pirates Wheelchair Basketball Skills Development Program provides structured opportunities for players to develop their basketball and wheelchair skills through individual coaching and small group development sessions.
The program is designed for players who want to improve their skills, build confidence and develop their understanding of wheelchair basketball in a supportive and focused environment.
Sessions will focus on skill development rather than social competition, allowing coaches to work closely with participants and tailor development to individual needs and ability.
As players progress, the program will also provide a pathway for participants who demonstrate the appropriate skills, commitment and readiness to be considered for tournaments and representative opportunities under the Pirates banner.
β
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The program will run by appointment, providing a flexible opportunity for players to get on court and work on their development.
Sessions will be delivered through a combination of:
-
Individual skill development
-
Small group skills sessions
-
Wheelchair basketball fundamentals
-
Position-specific development where appropriate
-
Game-based skill development
-
Shooting and ball-handling work
-
Wheelchair movement and court skills
β
The program will maintain a focused development environment, with participants grouped according to their experience, ability and development needs where appropriate.
Rather than simply playing social games each week, the emphasis will be on deliberate practice, skill development and player progression.

Competitive readiness
β
Players who are ready for the next stage may be invited to participate in tournaments or other competitive opportunities under the South West Metro Pirates banner.

LEARN → DEVELOP → PROGRESS → REPRESENT
Not every participant will need to progress into competition. The program is designed to meet players at their current level while providing an opportunity for those who want to develop further.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
PLAY — get on court and enjoy basketball.
