Larkins returns to the PIRATES

The South West Metro (NEW LIFE RESTORATION) Pirates are thrilled to announce the return of Wayne Larkins to the Pirate Ship as the Head Coach of the 2019 Men's QBL team.

Wayne has an outstanding resume as a player and coach and will be building on the strong showing of the Pirates over the last two seasons under Mick Downer. Wayne Larkins (affectionately nicknamed Doggie - for his tenacious style and never give in attitude) played in the NBL for 15 years between 1982 and 1996 - racking up 347 games. He then transitioned into coaching as a Bullets Assistant Coach under Brian Kerle and he was the original Pirates Head Coach in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

In 2003, Wayne accepted a Head Coach position with the Bendigo Braves in Victoria and guided the team to SEABL Conference finals in 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008, winning SEABL Championships in 2005 and 2007. In 2005 the Bendigo Braves took the National ABA title.

Wayne has built a successful business (RampAttak) in Brisbane and has been looking to return to his coaching passion and the opportunity to again team up with the Pirates was "an opportunity to good to pass up. My heart is with this club and to build further on what has been done by Mick in recent seasons is a very exciting period to further the Pirates program. I want to put together a competitive team which will be up to the challenge each and every week. We are in it to WIN!"
