International level athlete Simone Nalatu was quick to help those from the homeland. Simone is an athlete with strong Fijian ties. Simone was a member of the Fijian national team that played at the 2007 Netball World Championships. Both her parents also represented Fiji in Rugby (Father Kini) and Hockey (Mum Faith). She also played for the Queensland Firebirds from 2004–07. Simone has been a champion of the cause coordinating and promoting events to help Fiji rebuild. Simone has been supporting an event this Saturday, (see below right) any support is greatly appreciated.
Simone will join past players from the Pirates QBL program to play against the current squad on Friday evening the 1st April at the "Pirate Ship" (Hibiscus Sport Centre, Klumpp Rd Upper Mt Gravatt) The event is a fund raiser for the families affected by cyclone "Winston" through the Red Cross "Tropical Cyclone Winston Appeal"
Five dollars from every "Single Entry" ticket and ten dollars from every "Family Entry" ticket sold will be donated to the Red Cross, "Tropical Cyclone Winston Appeal". Simone's signed singlet will be auctioned along with Lote Tuqiri will all funds being donated to the appeal. Pirate's fans, friends and families
will have the opportunity to buy the "Heritage" singlets, $5 from every "Heritage" singlet sold will go towards the appeal. The "Heritage" singlets have been made with the names of every player, coach and manager involved in the Pirates QBL since 2002, as well as the names of all the club's life members. Single Entry is $12, children under 18 is a gold coin donation to the appeal and a Family Entry (2 adults and 2 children) is $20. Tickets can be purchased by clicking on the logo below.
