Olympian to Coach the Pirates next Season!!!
Fiona Hannan will be the Pirates QBL women's coach for the next two seasons. "The club is super excited to have Fiona on board the Ship", said Pirates QBL Chairman and last years women's coach, Peter Pollock.
"Our club has a history of developing players and providing a pathway for its juniors. We had a very young team last season, it's going to be fun watching the girls grow with what Fiona brings to the table. Fiona has been an advocate for women in sport and understands what the club and its QBL program are about."
Fiona had an 18 year career as a professional basketball player, culminating in winning a bronze medal with the Opals at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. In 2000 she was selected and represented Australia at the Sydney Olympics in Handball. Fiona is the only Australian, male or female, to ever swap from one team sport to another in Olympic history. Fiona is currently the General Manager of Brisbane's WNBL team, the SEQ Stars and also coaches one of the Pirates U16 boys representative teams as well helping out with club teams.
