Last year's QBL MVP, Tanner McGrew, will return to the WCMG Pirates to lead the team to what will hopefully be another finals appearance this year. McGrew's size and strength is obvious when he takes the court but his ability to move, shoot and pass the ball have made him a much sort after player. McGrew cited the team's culture and the direction the program is headed as the reasons for returning to the "Ship".
Securing the services of coach Downer was a big factor in his decision to return for another season.
"The club has worked hard to lift the level of professionalism to match the regional cities and its exciting! I cant wait to get back!"
The QBL's leading rebounder has made it clear his goal is to play his way into an NBL contract. The 2015 QBL MVP, Jeremy Kendle, won the MVP of the SEABL last year and won the SEABL championship with Bendigo. before signing with the Bullets towards end of the NBL season.
With so many current and ex NBL players in the QBL this season it will give McGrew the perfect stage to showcase his game.
The WCMG Pirates will face Bullets MVP Torrey Craig and the Gold Coast Rollers in the first home game of the season on Saturday 13th May at Hibiscus.
