An exceptional performance from Erica Carlson as Pirates take control of the Clippers. The Pirates jumped on board early in the game and despite a late surge by the home team from Maroochydore they could not overcome the margin. The lead extended to 22 points midway through the third quarter on the back of Carlson's amazing performance.
The "Big E" was everywhere on the stat sheet, producing an incredible stat line of 23 points at 60% from the field and 70% from the foul line, an incredible 24 rebounds, along with 2 assists and 6 blocked shots. Sidney Parsons was valuable in support with 24 points. Emma Glen contributed efficiently with 11 points at 57% from the field and 50% from the 3pt line. It was a great team effort for the group with each player contributing in different ways and stages of the game.
The victory gives the Dionysius Transport Pirate's women's team back to back wins in a season interrupted by injury and loss of players to development programs at State and National level. The Pirates return to the "Ship" on Sunday at noon to take on Ipswich followed by the men at 2.00pm.
The men have put a deposit into the account of Hibiscus Sports Management for a home QBL final by dismantling the Clippers. Captain Ryan Vines directed the crew, calling plays and navigating the Pirates in a disciplined performance. It has been a focus in the development of Ryan's game, along with his defence and the Clippers result speaks volumes to Ryan's long term committment to grow as a player. Teys, Bairstow and McGrew were the usual suspects in the pillaging. Each plundering for double doubles for the Pirates.
Ipswich still have a chance at gaining top spot over the Pirates in the south pool. They will need to beat the Pirates and win all of their remaining games Clippers, Rockhampton and Mackay on the road and hope the Pirates lose the next two games, Gold Coast on the road, and the Karlee Adams Foundation game at Hibiscus against Logan,
OR
beat the Pirates by more than 11 on Sunday and win 2 of their remaining 3 games, the Clippers at home, Rockhampton and Mackay AND rely on the Pirates to lose their last two games against Gold Coast and Logan.
With sharp shooter James Legan capable of dropping 3 pointers the way he has this season anything is possible.
A win by the Pirates on Sunday over the Force will see the Pirates host a home quarter final! It should be a cracker of a game, don't miss it!
