MVP Honours for Tanner McGrew!

After a stellar season with the Dionysius Transport Pirates, 22 year old, Tanner McGrew has been awarded the 2016 Most Valuable Player Award for the Queensland Basketball League. McGrew also led the QBL in rebounding averaging 15.1 rebounds per game. McGrew was a leader and worker all over the court averaging 21.1ppg, 42% from the 3 point line, 2.7 assists per game and 1.7 blocks per game. Some of those Lebron type blocks coming at critical parts of the game!

After joining the team late after having to complete his college commitments at West Virginian Wesleyan, the Pirates had 1 win and 2 losses. From there, McGrew helped the Pirates to a 12 and 5 regular season record to finish in third spot on the QBL ladder. McGrew, a favorite with team mates and coaches for his work ethic and character, led the Pirate to victories against all semi finalist teams in the regular season, Cairns, Brisbane, Townsville and Logan. Injuries to Brendan Teys and the loss of key players, Jarred Bairstow and Adam Tolo to the Olympics to watch their siblings play, had McGrew playing at the shooting guard and small forward positions in the last regular season game, in the win against Logan and then Logan again in the home quarter final. Unfortunately the run ended in the quarter final loss. Tanner and his lovely wife Abbey will now head to Denmark to continue his career.

Congratulations Tanner!

On behalf of all the Pirate crew, we wish both you and Abbey the very best in the next chapter of your lives and hope that you can return to the Ship to add to your story in the near future!
