In line with the directives of the State Government and Qld Health, we have cancelled all games that were due to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday night, as well as all shootaround or training bookings at Hibiscus.
Hibiscus Stadium will be closed during the lockdown as we are not deemed an "essential service".
The communication from Basketball Qld is below, which also contains information regarding the upcoming U16 State Championships and Nationals in Melbourne:
Subject: 📣 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 📣
TO: ALL MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS
As you may already be aware, all basketball activity in the Greater Brisbane Area (Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Ipswich, Redlands and Logan) is suspended while Brisbane’s three-day lockdown is in place. We are now trying to get some further information from Sport and Recreation to assist us in making decisions in relation to State Championships and State Teams about to travel to Melbourne. It may take some time to obtain this information and then make a decision. We understand that people will be anxious about this as they will have booked travel and accommodation, but this is out of our control and we are doing our best to manage the situation. We will be shortly posting information on social media stating the following:
We strongly encourage all participants to reconsider any basketball activity prior to the 5pm lockdown.
From 5pm tonight until 5pm Thursday, people in Greater Brisbane will be required to stay at home except:
📍 to attend essential work if you can’t work from home; 📍 to buy essentials like groceries and medicine; 📍 look after the vulnerable; and 📍 exercise within their neighbourhood
😷 Masks are to be worn at all times when outside of your place of residence, this includes in workplaces and public transport
Outside of Greater Brisbane
Mask wearing is compulsory for all public indoor spaces across Queensland. We are currently awaiting confirmation from the Queensland Government that players and referees will not have to wear masks while playing (undergoing strenuous activities). We advise all participants to visit their associations website and Facebook pages for more updates.
U16 State Championships
Basketball Queensland will continue to monitor restrictions and seek advice from Queensland Government officials before making any decision regarding the status of the 2021 U16 State Championships, due to commence on Tuesday, 9 April in the Greater Brisbane area.
At this stage the U16 State Championships are still scheduled to proceed.
BQ will continue to update our COVID-19 HUB as additional information becomes available.
