South Queensland Junior Basketball Competition

If you would like to take your basketball to the next level, why not play representative basketball for the Pirates.

There are age groups of U12, U14, U16, U18 and U21with a number of different divisions in each age group. This forms part of the Basketball Queensland's SQJBC competition. Associations from the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich and Toowoomba all take part.

The age group will determine when the competition is played - Under 12 is in school Term 3, Under 14 Term 2, Under 16 Term 1 and Under 18/21 Term 4. Trials are normally held for each age group 6 - 8 weeks before competition starts. If you are successful you can put on the gold and purple and play for the Pirates. Keep an eye on this page and our social media for trial date announcements.

Once the SQJBC season is completed all teams (except U21) then compete in the State Championships. This competition is held over 4-5 days and also includes teams from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton just to name a few. You could win the gold and become a State Champion!

For the the more skilled players in U16's, U18's and U20's, the opportunity also exists to represent Queensland at Nationals. Basketball Queensland coaches access players throughout the SQJBC season and State Championships and select a team that will then take on the best from all over Australia to determine a National Championship team.

There are many other opportunities available for you to take your game to the next level. Pirates run holiday camps and skill development clinics throughout the year, while you can also check the Basketball Queensland website for details on programs they offer. Who knows maybe one day you will put on the green and gold and represent Australia!
